MY NUTRITION

I was sitting in Prof Maughn’s lecture in UM last Thursday. As I was listening to his speech, I realized that this could be the last seminar on Sports Nutrition that I might attend to. Looking around, I see familiar faces, faces that I have known for 4 years and 8 months. It does feel different and weird, knowing that I will leave this field soon and I will not be able to meet this group of people as frequent as before.

I did my undergrad study in Nutrition in UPM for 3 years. It was not not a course that I chose (I chose to pursue law, can you believe that?). But, Allah knows the best. Not only He gave me something that I was capable of doing, He also gave me opportunity to the chosen job as soon as I graduted (while some of my friends were strugling to find one).

1st November 2007, I reported duty to Sports Nutrition Centre, ISN and this month marks my for 4 years and 8 months here. So, in total, I have been with nutrition for nearly 8 good years. Such a long time and I felt time flies so fast. Not only I make my living with it, I have basically live and breathe with it. From applying it to my Malaysian Archers, to publishing papers, oral and poster presentations, to attend to various seminars and conferences to debate the importance of nutrition with Dr Mohd Hazeman by saying that medical will become a small field if nutrition is being practice as a whole as a protective mechanism to obesity and nutritional related diseases, to giving lectures and talks. Owh yes! I live with it. I even have applied to further my post grad study in Nutritional Science for the September intake in UPM!

I am proud to be their Sports Nutritionist

Working with Malaysian Archers was fun. Not only it makes me feel young because the archers were very, very young, but they made me feel at home. I am the eldest in my family, and the rest of achers had me as if I was their big sister. I listened to their personal and athletes's stories. I learn that I can't go into their lives and tell them what to eat. Everthing started with a small minor step, to slighly bigger one. Until they understand that it is the most important to keep consuming energy snack during their FITA long duration competition.

I don't work alone, of course. I have strong group of people that I can always refer to. My knowledge is limited, thus these are the people that I look up to for support. My dearest collegue of sports nutritionist and dieticians in Sports Nutrition Centre. I was mould here, groomed, brushed, you name it! From 3 months education class, to Journal Club, to yearly anthropometric projects, to one community pameran to another, to monthly work plan, everything under one roof! How can you not develop after 4 years in here? Confirm meletup-letup kalau pergi interview ;p
And after 4 years 8 months, Allah stores something else for me. Something which different from nutrition and I guess it means a new field to me. I never thought it will be so difficult for me to make this decision, I thought with the benefits and advantages it offers me, it will be as easy as packing up and leave. I am wrong. To say goodbye to people whom I know so dearly is not easy. I've been through ups and downs with them. The Hanie you see today comes from here. I am not who I am today because I am great, but it is because of the process and opportunity that I owned while I am here.

Dear my Sports Nutritionist and Dietician collegue,
This is not a goodbye. For what I have been through, I owe it to all of you. Thank you for your kind help and the greated friendship that I have ever had.

Pet and I

Yes, I am nearing my third months in Pet. Time really flies.
My feelings? Mixed up.

Glad:

1   I survived my new working area. If I didn’t, I might have quit on my first month kan?
2) I have opportunities to meet new people, new bosses and the best part I got to know great people from great background. Engineers, geologist, economist and I’m proud to work with them.
3) Most of new colleagues mistakenly took me as fresh grad, hehehe! Nampak sgt awet muda, kan? ;p

Suffocating:

1)  Learning the whole procedure, process, culture, structure, everything! It is like you are starting from square zero
2)    The work load! Let’s not start with this one. I never know a job yang takde ending
3)    I kept going on the wrong lift and turn to the wrong side of doors. Gosh! Why are they just too complicated?

My new working station

Many people questioning my decision to come into Pet. I don’t blame them. After nearly 8 years in nutrition and suddenly into human resource, yup, it was not an easy decision. Up until this moment of time, I still felt a slight of terkilan; if I may say. While I was busy sorting my proposals and papers on my table, I do wonder if this is the right pathway. But, I guess Allah knows the best. I don’t see this sort of opportunity happen in everyone’s life everyday, so Allah must have planned something better for me. Plus, my parents were all up for this, they really wanted me to further myself for better development, so I guess, their prayer had been answered.
Photo: Dear God, I know I have been physically inactive and with current work nature; 90% is in front of the PC, please don't increase my body weight and body fat. I have been taking less amount of rice and replace them with..;D
My lunch

Nevertheless, the biggest hiccup starting anew for me is – adaptation. I adapted to the work better that I adapt to its social environment. Meaning I am not a friendly person. People will see me as a snobbish person, sombong, tak banyak cakap. Yup, correct, that’s me.

I don’t say hi to new people. I would look at you, judge you, see your from outside. I judge you by your cover. Hehehe! No lah, it is nothing like that. It’s just me. I memang tak friendly on our first meet up. But, once you know me and I am comfortable with you, you have no idea how crazy I can be, hehehe!

Anyway, everyday I go to work; I am looking forward for new challenge, for new term and abbreviations. Here at Pet, they have so many short forms, sometime I mixed them up. But yeah, tu lah the challenge.

Next week, I am going to PIPE; a two weeks induction for new Pet exec. It means I will miss all open house and maybe my own brother’s engagement day. I hate induction.

SAHM

The first time I learn this 4 letters, I thought it was some letters of angry words. It turns out to be as –Stayed At Home Mother, hehehe! Suits me very well- Hanie the SAHM   ;p

Yes, since I got married and with all-the-so-hard-to-believe-and-accept news happening to the children in Malaysia today, I had promised myself that I must do everything in my power (hehehe!) and of course with Allah’s will, to be a SAHM by the age of 30 years old. Sounds pathetic? Nah, listen to my followed arguments and then we draw our own conclusion, ok?

Why at 30 years old?
1)   I graduated in 2007, got married in 2010. So the savings that I had for that 3 years were all used up for the wedding day, hehehe! So, I have to continue working for at least until 30 years old to fork up money for down payment of future house, to stabilize the laundry (and to operate another laundry, hopefully, iAllah) and to get pregnant, of course, hahaha! Or else the objective of becoming a SAHM will be useless, hehehe!
2)   I think by 30 years old I will start grumbling of when I can stop working office hour, seriously. Asked Hazeman how many times I had talked to him into quitting the current job because I want to have flexible time (no other reason but to have more flexibility). So, 4 years in ISN, another 4 years in the new place, so I think that should be enough
3)   If Allah permits me to be pregnant this year (amiiiiiinnnnnn), by the age of 30 years old, my future kid (s) would be around two years old. At the age of two years old, they will start to grow so fast so I do not wish to miss any important moment with them. (Do you know that at the age of 1 year and 5 months, Kakak and Iddin can count 1 to 10 (bilingual- Malay and English) whenever we climbed the stairs and whenever they saw the Touch n Go post?)
4)   Hopefully Hazeman is done with his post grad study, hehehe!

Why SAHM?
1)   When I was growing up, Ibu had basically being around me all the time because she is a teacher. She was my class teacher since I was in Standard 4. And when I was in SAB, she was still very much with me. She works in the morning, so she has the afternoon to night time with us, fetched me from SAB, sent me to tuition classes, to swimming classes in Sri Inai and UIA(when I was in UPM, hehehe!). We even got to spend a lot of time together during school holidays because she is not working during school holidays. Her figures were very vivid during my brought up. So, Ibu was not a SAHM, but she is a teacher and she got plenty of time with her children. I want to have those times with mine too.
2)   Since Hazeman came back from Kuching, I had only managed to cook for him one time. He has never complained about that because he knows we are both working couples and addition to that we are running our laundry daily. Back in Kuching, we always have time to go to Pasar Satok and cooked together, a luxury time which we don’t have now. But, I don’t think my future children will appreciate that. They will not understand that I don’t have time to serve decent meals on the table. All they know is other mothers might be cooking for their children, then why aren’t theirs? I am not Ayah, who can cooked 5 different dishes during weekends and freeze and heat them when we want to eat them for lunch and dinner for weekdays. Not only they tasted as good as fresh cooked dishes, it is even healthier because he will trim the fatty part on the top before he heated them. Brilliant isn’t he?  Ayah even got time to wake up early, preparing us milk carrot juice as a breakfast before we left for school. Such a super dad, kan?
3)   More time with Hazeman, hehehe! I need a lot of this. Even after 2 years of marriage, I still feel that I need more `our’ times. I know people will say “Ish, mengada-ngadanya nak berkepit dengan suami je”, but, but, syurga isteri di bawah tapak kaki suami, kan? It doesn’t mean I want to be with him 24/7, no, but at least, when he’s home, I am home too and dish is properly serve on the table, his clothes are all ironed, we can have our jogging time on weekends,  etc. Best kan?
4)   Have you read about all the crazy news in the newspaper? From baby tercekik susu, to baby kena culik by maids, to standard two kids do something `funny’ to their classmates, to everything that we have never imagined or think of happening to them such a as Standard 6 girl sneak out from school whenever her mother sent her to the gate to follow an 18 years old boy or a group of boys were talking something with related to sexual attitude and upload the video on You Tube etc etc.  If you are a daughter to a mother who is a teacher, you would hear this sort of story most of everyday.  May Allah bless us all. I am not saying that all of these happened due to their mothers are not taking care of them. But, MAYBE, we are still lack of the necessary ilmu that we ought to have with regards to the up bring of a different zaman of children. Saidina Umar al-Khattab (RA) had once said “Didiklah anakmu mengikut zamannya”. Thus, we have to always have our ilmu to raise our kids updated throughout the time. The approach we do to our 3 years old daughter shall not be the same to our 13 years old daughter, kan? I sometimes wonder, do we have re-new our marriage certificate every n-th years just like we re-new our driving license? So that whenever we go to re-new it, we have to go for classes with related to rising up our children for betterment. And I know some of my SAHM friends; they always have time for this stuff. They go for many classes to facilitate themselves to be a better parent. One of my friends had actually set up a special corner for her 2 years old kid for his home school learning activity. Owh, I am so jealous -ing!  She is actually her child’s first teacher!

Numbers and newspaper reports are too much too handle. I believe best education comes from home

5)  Last but not lease, I would like to have more proper time for myself. When I send my kids to kelas mengaji, maybe I can go for own kelas mengaji too. When I send them to their horseback riding class, I can go for some kelas agama or tazkirah after Dhuha at the surau in my housing area, or anything with related to the ibadat for the day after. I realized now, at the time moment, I got too consumed with my daily activity (read: urusan duniawi), my urusan akhirat has not be taken into proper place. I don’t know when Allah will discontinue my life, but I really want to improve myself as a Muslimah and be prepared to face Him later.

There you go, the reason why I want to be a SAHM. Today's SAHMs are way better educated and confident group of people since Allah had given us the greater opportunities . Thus, let’s use it to produce better children for the future and for the Ummah, insyaAllah...

Saya ada kawan..

Look at this picture carefully...

Apa punya tajuk entry la? Tapi, seriously, Saya ada kawan...I have friends.. =)

This is Kak Soraya. She was my senior during my undergrad study in UPM. We didn't really know each other back then.

This is Loo @ Mrs Teng Tong. She was graduated from UKM and we met in ISN.

This is Izham. He was also graduated from UKM. We met when we did volunteering during Sukan Wanita, UPM 2007.

All four of us; we reported for duty in ISN, on the same date and day : 1st November 2007. We were naive, little that we know that having each other as friends matter so much; not just professionally but also emotionally. And we had celebrated our 4th anniversary last year.

I never felt so attached to a friendship; seriously (yes, my best friend knows that we might lost contact for 1 year, but when we needed each other, we know who to look for).

We went to Shiok Kopitian in Kinrara, to celebrate our 4th anniversary

But, with Kak So, Loo and Izham; I felt very...em, urm..what would the the most suitable word to use? Related, I guess? That when one of them went for out-station, or went for long holidays or had to take a long leave, the office felt bizarre (wah!! full of emotion ;p) But, seriously, my office is not the same without them.

Loo and I, we had Aussie grilled chicken chop
They witnessed most of my breakdowns (and I witnessed theirs) throughout the four years. Not just matter related to work, but also personally. We could share our problems and concerns about everything.

I also had vanilla shake with jelly

There were many times we had our ups and downs together. We also had arguments and misunderstanding. But, surprisingly, it didn't last long. We could just get over it, and still be good friend =)

Izham had Shiok burger

They were there on my wedding day, we were there on Kak So's first open house, we were suppose to go to Loo's wedding day (we had planned our stay in Taiping and everything) but unfortunately, something came up and she had to re-schedule her wedding day. We helped preparing Am's wedding favor (buat kat office,ok? ;p) and we were suppose to help him on his very wedding day; I was suppose to be the MC (but my grandma was in ICU and Kak So had to go for her Umrah).

Yes, we can share most of everything

2012 is our 5th years together. And we have discovered so many things about each other. We are married and Loo's pregnant, Izham's is expecting a baby soon too. But, we don't know how long that we are going to stay together in ISN. I mean, we do have our own future plan, right?

Tadaaaaa...

But if this happened to be our last anniversary together....

Double tadaaa...!

Please remember that I have always love and adore all three of you. You guys are part of the reason that I felt so hard to leave ISN (if I am leaving la.. ;p)

Happy full face! =)

And we must reunite ourselves one fine day ;p

Our 3rd anniversary

And I will always pray for your happiness, success and prosperity..
